GST Calculator
Add GST to a base price, or remove GST from a GST-inclusive price, at the current Indian GST rates. Split the tax into CGST + SGST for an intra-state sale or IGST for an inter-state sale, and total a multi-item invoice.

Current GST rate slabs (2026)
Following the GST 2.0 reform effective 22 September 2025, India’s main GST slabs were simplified from five (0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) to four: 0%, 5%, 18% and 40%, with a special 3% rate on gold, silver and other precious-metal articles, and 0.25% on rough diamonds. Most former 12% items moved to 5%, and most former 28% items moved to 18%; a narrow set of luxury and “sin” goods (such as pan masala, aerated drinks and high-end vehicles) moved to the new 40% slab. Exact rates depend on the specific HSN/SAC classification of the goods or service, so treat this as a general guide and confirm the exact rate before invoicing.
How this GST Calculator works
Add GST: GST amount = base amount × rate ÷ 100. Total = base amount + GST amount. Remove GST: base amount = total amount ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). GST amount = total amount − base amount. CGST/SGST vs IGST: for a sale within the same state, the GST amount is split equally between Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST), so each is half the total rate. For a sale between two different states, the full amount is charged as Integrated GST (IGST) instead, with no CGST/SGST split. This calculator only splits the tax; it does not determine which type applies to your transaction — that depends on the place of supply rules.
Frequently asked questions
What are the current GST rates in India?
After the GST 2.0 reform effective 22 September 2025, the main slabs are 0%, 5%, 18% and 40%, with 3% on gold/silver and 0.25% on rough diamonds. The exact rate depends on the specific item’s HSN or SAC code.
What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?
CGST and SGST apply together on sales within the same state, splitting the GST rate equally between the central and state governments. IGST applies as a single tax on sales between two different states, collected by the central government and apportioned to the destination state.
How do I calculate GST backwards from a total price?
Divide the GST-inclusive total by (1 + rate ÷ 100) to get the base amount, then subtract the base amount from the total to get the GST amount. This calculator’s “Remove GST” mode does this automatically.
Does this calculator tell me which GST rate applies to my product?
No. GST rates vary by HSN/SAC classification and can have exceptions. This tool only calculates the tax once you know the rate; confirm the applicable rate on the official GST portal or with a tax professional.
Is GST the same as VAT or sales tax? GST is India’s version of a value-added tax, replacing the earlier system of separate central and state indirect taxes (like VAT, service tax and excise duty) with one unified tax structure.
